Newtonbrook West
Location & Character
Newtonbrook West is a residential neighbourhood in the Borough of North York, located in the far north of the former City of North York between Yonge Street and Bathurst Street, south of Steeles Avenue West. It's a largely suburban neighbourhood of post-war detached homes, bungalows, and apartment buildings, with a significant Iranian-Canadian community that has shaped local businesses, restaurants, and cultural institutions along Yonge Street.
The neighbourhood has a strong community identity rooted in its Persian community, with Yonge Street north of Sheppard sometimes informally called "Tehrangeles North" for its concentration of Iranian restaurants, bakeries, and cultural businesses. It's a neighbourhood where long-established families and recent newcomers coexist in a stable suburban environment.
