Forest Hill North
Location & Borough
Forest Hill North is the upper portion of the historic Forest Hill neighbourhood in the City of Toronto borough, stretching between Eglinton Avenue West and Lawrence Avenue along the Allen Road corridor. It shares the Forest Hill name and some of its heritage, but has a notably different character — more apartment building stock, lower average prices, and a more transit-connected identity due to its proximity to the Spadina and Yonge subway lines.
Character & Vibe
Forest Hill North has something of a split personality. The side streets are lined with beautiful mid-century detached homes and have the quiet, tree-canopied quality associated with the Forest Hill name. But the major corridors — particularly along Eglinton and Allen Road — have significant apartment building stock from the 1950s and 60s that houses a more diverse, less affluent population. The neighbourhood has a strong Jewish community, particularly Ashkenazi Orthodox institutions, and is family-oriented.
Transit
Nine subway stations serve the neighbourhood — a surprisingly high count that reflects its position between the Yonge and Spadina lines. Thirty-three bus stops add surface coverage. Allen Road provides rapid vehicle access northward. The Eglinton Crosstown adds a future east-west layer.
Landmarks & Amenities
Sixteen dining options and 3 grocers along the Eglinton corridor — modest but functional. One library. Three schools including several Jewish day schools. Two fitness studios and 2 healthcare facilities. The neighbourhood primarily serves its residents rather than attracting visitors.
Parks & Green Space
Eleven parks, including the Nordheimer Ravine system, which connects south into the Cedarvale Ravine and north toward the Allen Road green corridor. Forest Hill Village Park is a neighbourhood gathering point. The ravine access is the standout green amenity.
Dining & Nightlife
Sixteen restaurants, primarily along the Eglinton corridor — kosher delis, cafés, and casual dining. One nightlife venue. The neighbourhood is domestically oriented, and residents travel for more diverse options.
Schools
Three schools within the boundary, supplemented by numerous Jewish day schools and private schools in the broader area. Forest Hill Collegiate Institute's catchment extends into parts of this neighbourhood.
Rental Market
With 40 listings, average rent is $2,698 and median is $2,375. Range is $1,650–$4,995. Older apartment buildings along the Eglinton corridor offer value relative to the neighbourhood name recognition. The tight range (no extreme outliers) indicates a consistent rental market.
Who It's Best For
Jewish community members seeking proximity to synagogues and day schools. Families who want Forest Hill adjacency at more accessible price points. Subway commuters who value the 9-station access to both the Yonge and Spadina lines.
